About the H.E.R.O.S. Summer Program
July or August depending on location
Each year, participating schools select 32 children ages of 7–13 to take part in the H.E.R.O.S. Summer Program.
The Summer Program promotes positive behaviour and self-esteem building.
The goal is to give H.E.R.O.S. participants an opportunity to fine tune their hockey skills and H.E.R.O.S. behaviours as well as to create a positive team environment.
Serving as an extension of the Winter Program, the Summer Program is designed to reinforce H.E.R.O.S. behaviours, but with a stronger focus on the celebration of each H.E.R.O.S. participant.
Equipment, ice time and professional instruction for H.E.R.O.S. participants are provided at no charge.
The program consists of:
Morning
- Two hours of on-ice instruction including power skating and drills by a professional instructor.
- Off-ice activities such as the LINO Art Program, soccer, football, or floor hockey.
Lunch
- A nutritious balanced meal is provided free every day.
Afternoon
- Two hours of on-ice hockey instruction and hockey drills
Finale
On the fifth and final day of the Summer Program, H.E.R.O.S. participants play in a three-period, NHL-style game. The game comes complete with referees, time clocks and goaltending. Players compete for the “Stanley Cone.”
Bring the Family
An awards ceremony and celebration follows the final game to cap off the Summer Program. H.E.R.O.S. participants, families and friends are all invited to take part in festivities and to applaud our H.E.R.O.S.
